PE DEVELOPMENT
FREE, NO OBLIGATION, EXEMPLAR PE LESSON! We will conduct a free, no obligation, Exemplar physical education lesson to asses your schools provision and outcomes for PE and school sport.PE Development was established in 2013 by Wayne Potbury a qualified Physical Education teacher with the aim to support and develop PE & School Sport provision in Primary / Infant / Junior schools across Sussex. The vast experience in teaching PE & School Sport in Nursery, Primary, Secondary and Further Education within the personnel involved in setting up PE Development, has enabled us to be confident in the ability of PE Development to support and develop PE & School Sport in Primary schools across Sussex, always with the schools best interests as our core vision. We will use our professionalism to audit the schools current provision and create a development plan that will advise schools how they could develop their current provision in order to maximise the primary schools sports funding. We will create a healthy and professional relationship with Headteacher / PE Coordinator / Coach within the Primary school, in order to facilitate an enthusiastic and positive approach to PE & School Sport in Primary schools across Sussex.
We envisage that the new School Sport will be an extension of the PE Curriculum and will offer children at Hove Junior School the opportunity to expand their skills that they’ve learnt in PE lessons and give opportunities to play competitively against other children and other schools. The Rich, Varied & Inclusive School Sport that we are offering is delivered by qualified and experienced PE teachers or friendly and reliable, qualified and experienced Coaches. All have Brighton & Hove City Council DBS checks, First Aid qualifications and experience and Public Liability Insurance. Staying safe: Safeguarding young people is paramount and PE Development staff will question any issues that might arise with regard to child protection. Being healthy: PE Development staff ensure that active, fit and healthy lifestyles are promoted in everything we do. Enjoying and Achieving: PE Development staff work hard to ensure that enjoyment is had by all, we will ensure that children have ‘smiles on their faces’ and they develop the skills of the sport.

CORE PHYSICAL EDUCATION CURRICULUM
COMPETITIVE SCHOOL SPORT FOR PRIMARY SCHOOL CHILDREN
COMPETITIVE SCHOOL SPORT
All children enjoy being appropriately challenged and at a young age most are keen to explore what they are capable of. Competitive school sport for primary school children should be characterised by a focus on achieving one’s ‘personal best’ rather than being ‘the best’. Engage primary children in personal challenges, allow them to practise and test their skills and personal competence, and small-sided games to encourage teamwork and a sense of how to play and succeed. A good competitive school sport programme includes regular club participation opportunities where children can learn more about specific sports, receive age-appropriate coaching and practise their skills.
THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE INDIVIDUAL AS A WHOLE
SCHOOL SPORT EXPERIENCE
A schools extra curricular Sport programme should compliment the PE Curriculum, it should offer children the opportunity to expand their skills that they’ve learnt in PE lessons and give opportunities to play competitively against other children and other schools. The sports that are offered should be varied and ideally seasonal. PE Development encourage children to develop technically and tactically within the School Sport Programme, allowing pupils to plan which skills to improve and which tactics to develop, in order to gain a better understanding and knowledge of the sport.
ASSESSING THE TEACHING AND LEARNING OF PE
PE CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT
Physical education is education through physical activity: its goal is the development of the individual as a whole, not just their physical development or their proficiency in specific sports. Through a focus on ensuring high quality physical education at primary school we provide young people with access to physical activity for life as well as build the foundation for future participation and performance in sport. A high quality PE programme will develop physical literacy and allow children to learn about themselves, the importance of a healthy lifestyle, self expression and concepts such as fair play and respect. PE also contributes to the development of a range of important cognitive skills such as decision making and analysis, and social skills such as teamwork, communication and leadership.
CREATING OPPORTUNITIES TO BE PHYSICALLY ACTIVE
HEALTHY, ACTIVE LIFESTYLES
It is imperative that a young person’s appetite for an active lifestyle is enhanced as soon as possible, and the best way to influence this is by providing a ‘high quality’ physical education experience in their first few years at school. Healthy behaviours in childhood and the teenage years set patterns for later life and, if acquired early, can have a dramatic impact on well-being. Nearly a quarter of all reception-aged children and one third of Year 6 pupils are overweight or obese and it has been documented that inactivity causes nine per cent of premature mortality. We will Identify children who are the least-active, who are overweight or who are at risk of obesity and design targeted physical activity interventions specifically for them. The focus needs to be on enjoyment, so to engage these pupils by offering a breadth of appealing activities that include plenty of exercise and promote wider health and well-being messages in a young people-centred environment.
